School Council

Our School Council is valued and supported by everyone – the headteacher, governors, teaching/non-teaching staff and pupils. Everyone understands the reasons for having a School Council and how this benefits the pupils and staff.

School Council meetings follow ‘Class Councils’. Meetings are held every half term with a planned agenda based on Class Council feedback. Class Councils provide an opportunity for pupils to learn how to:

- Solve problems fairly

- Develop responsible attitudes

- Take part in discussions

- Talk about things that affect them

- Become good listeners

- Improve the school environment

- Take responsibility and help to improve behaviour

Our School Council has been successfully operating for many years. Each year, elections are held for new School Councillor representatives to be voted onto the School Council – one for each year group. New School Councillors are trained to run discussions and lead meetings.

Reliable and effective structures are in place to consult with all pupils which enables all pupils to have ‘a voice’ – a say in their school routines and school community. Our School Councillors are encouraged to understand how important their role is, and in doing so, good commitment is given to discussing and making decisions about different issues that affect them and our school.
